Job description

Job Description SummaryThe Software Leader will lead the feature develop group of Voluson China R&D team in creating and delivering advanced software features for obstetrics and gynecology. The role owns the feature journey from clinical need and early technical exploration through definition, development, integration, verification, registration support, release, and iterative improvement. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. The successful candidate will combine deep AI algorithm and medical software development experience with strong customer engagement, co-innovation, technical influence, coaching, and delivery accountability. The leader is expected to remain capable of contributing as a senior individual developer while guiding a small feature development group to deliver meaningful clinical and business value. Role Purpose Turn unmet clinical needs in OB & GYN into differentiated, high-quality Voluson innovations through customer co-creation, strong technical leadership, and disciplined end-to-end execution. GE HealthCare is a leading global medical technology and digital solutions innovator. Our purpose is to create a world where healthcare has no limits. Unlock your ambition, turn ideas into world-changing realities, and join an organization where every voice makes a difference, and every difference builds a healthier world. Job DescriptionLead the innovation, architecture, development, integration, verification, registration support, release, and iteration of advanced OB & GYN software features for the Voluson portfolio. Own technical direction and execution across the feature lifecycle, balancing clinical value, user experience, product quality, regulatory needs, cybersecurity, performance, maintainability, and delivery commitments. Participate directly in feature definition and Advanced Technology Development (ATD), including feasibility assessment, technical prototyping, algorithm evaluation, risk identification, and transition into product development. Drive robust engineering practices, including design reviews, code reviews, automated testing, defect prevention, technical documentation, and continuous improvement. Collaborate effectively across software, systems, clinical, product management, quality, regulatory, service, and global R&D teams to deliver integrated solutions. Build sustained interaction with customers and end users, including sonographers, physicians, clinical experts, and key opinion leaders, to understand workflows, unmet needs, and adoption barriers. Translate clinical pain points and user insights into clear product opportunities, feature concepts, workflow requirements, and testable value hypotheses. Co-innovate with customers through observation, interviews, concept reviews, prototypes, usability feedback, and clinical evaluation, while maintaining appropriate quality, privacy, regulatory, and compliance boundaries. Communicate technical concepts and product intent clearly in both written and verbal form. Create high-quality technical proposals, feature definitions, design documentation, study inputs, and decision materials. Use post-release feedback, field evidence, and product data where available to guide feature iteration and improve clinical value and user experience. Provide expert leadership in applied AI algorithm development for medical imaging and clinical workflows, from data strategy and model development through integration, verification, monitoring, and lifecycle improvement. Remain hands-on when needed in architecture, algorithm development, software design, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and critical technical decisions. Guide the integration of AI components into production-grade medical software, with attention to robustness, traceability, reproducibility, explainability where applicable, and safe system behavior. Ensure effective use of C++ and C# within the product software environment and promote sound software architecture, interface design, coding, testing, and configuration-management practices. Evaluate new technologies pragmatically and convert promising capabilities into scalable product or productivity improvements. Provide technical and delivery leadership for a small feature development group, potentially operating as a virtual or cross-functional team. Coordinate contributors around clear priorities, ownership, technical standards, milestones, risks, and decisions to deliver shared outcomes. Coach and develop engineers, especially new and early-career team members, through technical mentoring, constructive feedback, stretch assignments, design participation, and career-development support. Create an inclusive, accountable, learning-oriented environment that encourages innovation, healthy technical debate, knowledge sharing, and timely escalation of risks. Build team capability in AI, medical software, clinical understanding, systems thinking, and cross-functional execution. Contribute personally as a senior developer or technical expert when the situation requires deep technical intervention. Stay curious about emerging AI technologies and advanced engineering tools, including AI-assisted coding, testing, documentation, knowledge retrieval, simulation, and workflow automation. Pilot and responsibly adopt useful tools that improve engineering quality, speed, learning, and everyday productivity. Help the team establish practical usage patterns, safeguards, and reusable approaches so that productivity gains can scale beyond individual experiments. Master’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related computer software discipline is required. Substantial hands-on experience developing AI algorithms, preferably for medical imaging, computer vision, image analysis, workflow automation, or other clinically relevant applications. Demonstrated experience developing production-grade medical software or software for another highly regulated, safety-conscious domain. Strong programming and software design capability in C++ and C#; able to review architecture and code, diagnose complex issues, and contribute directly when needed. Experience taking software or AI-enabled features through multiple lifecycle stages such as concept, feasibility, requirements, design, implementation, integration, verification, release, registration support, and post-release iteration. Demonstrated leadership capability through technical influence, delivery coordination, and people development, including guiding a small or virtual feature team, coaching engineers, and aligning stakeholders around outcomes. Strong customer orientation and communication skills, with the ability to work directly with clinical users and convert their needs into actionable product and technical direction. Strong written and spoken communication skills in English and Chinese, suitable for cross-regional collaboration and customer engagement. Experience in ultrasound, women’s health, obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive medicine, pelvic floor, fetal imaging, or related clinical domains. Experience with medical-device software quality systems, design controls, risk management, software lifecycle documentation, verification and validation, and regulatory submissions. Experience with AI data strategy, annotation, model evaluation, performance characterization, dataset shift, synthetic data, MLOps, or model lifecycle management. Experience working in a global, matrixed R&D organization and collaborating across regions, disciplines, and time zones. Experience shaping early-stage concepts through ATD, rapid prototyping, customer co-creation, and evidence-based prioritization. Clinical curiosity Seeks direct understanding of customer workflows and unmet needs. Technical depth Makes sound decisions and contributes hands-on in complex situations. Outcome leadership Aligns and guides a small, potentially virtual feature team to deliver measurable customer and product value. Talent devel
