System Architect – Job Description Role Summary We are looking for an experienced System Architect to design and govern scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable enterprise solutions. The architect will translate business and system requirements into architecture designs and provide technical direction to development, infrastructure, cloud, integration, and engineering teams. System Architects commonly own architectural blueprints, integration approaches, technology evaluation, and architectural standards. Key Responsibilities Define end-to-end system architecture covering applications, APIs, databases, infrastructure, cloud, networking, and integration. Develop architecture diagrams, solution designs, interface specifications, and technical documentation. Translate business and functional requirements into appropriate technical architecture. Define integration approaches between applications, services, databases, and external systems. Evaluate technologies and conduct technical assessments or proof-of-concepts where required. Ensure architecture addresses scalability, performance, reliability, maintainability, and security. Establish architectural standards, design principles, and engineering best practices. Review technical designs produced by development and engineering teams. Provide technical leadership throughout design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and modernization. Analyze legacy/current-state architecture and define target-state architecture and migration approaches. Collaborate with business stakeholders, Solution Architects, developers, DevOps, infrastructure, security, and QA teams. Identify architectural risks, dependencies, constraints, and technical debt. Maintain architecture documentation and technology roadmaps. Skill Requirements Required Technical Skills For the kind of application modernization and cloud-migration programs you typically work with, I would recommend specifying: System and Solution Architecture Microservices and distributed architecture REST APIs / integration architecture Java / .NET / Python architecture knowledge Azure / AWS cloud architecture Containers and Kubernetes SQL / NoSQL database concepts CI/CD and DevOps architecture Identity, authentication and security concepts High availability and disaster recovery Performance and scalability design Architecture/design patterns Legacy application modernization Architecture documentation using UML / component / deployment diagrams Exposure to architectural frameworks such as TOGAF is beneficial. Experience & Qualification Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related discipline. For a senior System Architect opening, I would suggest 12+ years of overall IT experience with several years in architecture/technical-design responsibilities. This is a hiring recommendation rather than a fixed industry requirement. Strong experience designing enterprise-scale applications and integrated systems. Excellent problem-solving, technical leadership, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
