Job description

Overview Synopsys software engineers are key enablers in the world of Electronic Design Automation (EDA), developing and maintaining software used in chip design, verification and manufacturing. They work on assignments like designing, developing, and troubleshooting software, leveraging the state-of-the-art technologies like AI/ML, GenAI and Cloud. Their critical contributions enable world-wide EDA designers to extend the frontiers of semiconductors and chip development. Job Description Date posted 10/19/2026 Category Information Technology Hire Type Employee Job ID 17473 Base Salary Range $161000-$242000 Remote Eligible No Date Posted 10/19/2026 We Are Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow. You Are You are the kind of person who notices the small signals before they become loud problems. You pay attention to the moments when work slows down, when decisions get made on partial information, or when teams quietly build workarounds because the system feels unpredictable. You don’t accept that as “just how it is.” You feel a steady pull toward clarity toward making the environment easier to understand, easier to trust, and easier to operate day after day.You are calm in complexity. When priorities shift or inputs conflict, you don’t freeze or overcorrect; you create structure. You ask the questions that reveal what’s actually happening, and you listen carefully to how different groups describe the same issue in different language. You can hold multiple perspectives at once what leaders need to plan, what engineers need to stay productive, what operators need to keep services stable and you naturally look for the shared truth underneath. You thrive on thoughtful trade offs. You don’t chase perfection for its own sake; you aim for decisions that are durable, explainable, and aligned with real constraints. You’re transparent about uncertainty, deliberate about assumptions, and comfortable updating your view as new evidence arrives. You prefer progress that compounds: small improvements that reduce friction, prevent repeat pain, and leave teams with a system that surprises them less over time. What You'll Be Doing Define and maintain a single, opinionated set of KPIs and metric definitions that describe health, performance, utilization, and cost across the EDA/HPC estate. Build executive-ready dashboards and narratives that connect capacity, turnaround time, availability, and spend to concrete decisions and timelines. Translate stakeholder questions from engineering leadership, R&D users, capacity planners, and operations into prioritized analytics requirements, clearly accepting, consolidating, or declining requests. Partner with Observability and data platform teams to integrate data sources, validate data quality, and operationalize reliable pipelines and semantic layers for reporting. Lead demand forecasting and scenario planning, producing capacity options and investment recommendations across on-prem and cloud. Define and operationalize SLIs/SLOs for critical infrastructure services, improving alerting and surfacing reliability and capacity risks before they become incidents. Drive post-incident follow-through by quantifying impact, identifying systemic failure patterns, and prioritizing durable fixes and automation that reduce recurring toil. The Impact You Will Have Create one trusted, shared view of the EDA/HPC estate that replaces competing spreadsheets and anecdotal decision-making. Enable faster, higher-confidence capacity and cloud decisions through forecasts, scenarios, and risk trade-offs tied to real project milestones. Improve engineer productivity by reducing avoidable wait time and unplanned slowdowns through earlier detection of bottlenecks and constraints. Increase infrastructure cost efficiency by making utilization, waste, and unit economics visible and actionable across teams. Strengthen operational maturity with SLO-driven practices that reduce alert noise, clarify service commitments, and focus effort on what matters most. Reduce repeat incidents and recovery time by surfacing systemic failure patterns and driving durable remediation and automation. Improve cross-functional alignment by establishing shared definitions, governance, and planning cadences that keep stakeholders moving in the same direction. What You'll Need You have deep, hands-on understanding of EDA/HPC shared infrastructure and how engineering workflows behave across compute farms, schedulers, license services, storage, networks, interactive environments, and cloud. You bring a strong quantitative mindset and comfort turning messy operational data into clear insights using SQL, Python (or similar), and modern analytics tooling. You have a track record of defining meaningful SLIs/SLOs, improving instrumentation, and building alerting that drives action rather than noise. You have owned requirements and metric definitions in partnership with observability and data platform teams, aligning on data sources, semantics, and data quality. You bring a proactive reliability approach, using automation, guardrails, and continuous improvement to reduce toil and prevent recurring issues. You have led cross-functional infrastructure initiatives end-to-end through ambiguity, aligning stakeholders and delivering outcomes amid competing priorities. You bring clear, executive-ready communication, translating technical trade-offs into decisions that balance reliability, performance, cost, and long-term sustainability. Who You Are You are decisive about what matters, consistently turning many competing requests into a small set of high-leverage questions and priorities. You approach ambiguity with structure, making assumptions explicit, testing them quickly, and updating your direction as evidence changes. You communicate with precision and calm under pressure, keeping teams aligned on restoration, learning, and durable follow-through. You build trust through transparency, inviting critique early, sharing context openly, and closing loops reliably with stakeholders. You challenge ideas constructively, surfacing trade-offs and second-order effects while keeping the conversation grounded in outcomes. The Team You'll Be Part Of The role sits on the IT Infra Platform Team, which runs the compute, storage, license, and cloud infrastructure Synopsys R&D relies on to design and verify products across sites, on-prem, and in the cloud. This position serves as the analytics and insights lead for the EDA/HPC estate, partnering closely with R&D engineering groups, CAD and flow teams, the Observability team, and finance to align capacity, reliability, and cost decisions.
