ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD. At AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world’s most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future. Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career. THE ROLE: The Diagnostics team develops the software that brings up, validates, and qualifies AMD's multimedia IP across CPUs, APUs, and discrete GPUs. In this role you will design and develop diagnostics and validation tools for multimedia hardware features - including video encode/decode and post-processing - from pre-silicon through production. You will collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, driver, and validation teams, and support both internal engineering teams and external customers for chip screening, validation, and profiling. We are looking for a highly motivated engineer who enjoys low-level and embedded programming and can independently drive tasks to completion. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Design and develop diagnostics software for multimedia IP feature bring-up and verification in pre-silicon (FPGA, C-Model, Palladium, etc.) and post-silicon (silicon and platform) environments • Identify and resolve IP, SoC, board, and firmware issues; provide diagnostics support to internal engineering teams and external customers for chip screening, validation, and profiling • Participate in new APU/GPU silicon bring-up and execution • Optimize diagnostics software for coverage, effectiveness, and efficiency • Develop and deploy AI-based tools and workflows to accelerate test development, failure triage, and debug • Build and debug automation tools to improve productivity • Drive improvements to the development process and innovation in multimedia diagnostics PREFERRED EXPERIENCES: • Minimum 8 years of experience in driver, validation tool, or embedded software development, working closely with hardware designers and firmware teams • Strong mix of large-scale software development ability and hardware understanding • Proficient in C and modern C++ programming • Familiarity with Linux; device driver or firmware development experience required • Familiarity with source control systems (Git, Perforce) • Hands-on experience with SoC/board bring-up preferred • Strong debugging, testing, and communication skills AI EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED) • Proven ability to develop and deploy AI/ML solutions that resolve real engineering problems - for example, automating test generation, hardware failure and log triage, debug assistance, or developer productivity tooling • Hands-on knowledge of Python and modern AI/ML frameworks and tooling (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, LLM APIs and agent frameworks) • Ability to integrate AI into day-to-day engineering and development workflows, with sound judgment on where AI adds value versus traditional methods • A continuous learner who actively builds and applies new AI skills as the toolset evolves PREFERRED (MULTIMEDIA DOMAIN) • Hands-on experience with video encode/decode and/or video post-processing • Familiarity with video post-processing and enhancement algorithms, including scaling, color space conversion, gamut remap, tone mapping, alpha blending, and HDR • Familiarity with CPU/GPU/APU architecture • Experience with multi-threading or parallel programming ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
