Job description
About the Team: Enterprise Systems is the backbone of GSK’s internal operations in Digital & Tech, enabling GSK Global Functions teams such as Finance, Procurement, HR, Legal, Compliance, (Workplace & Real Estate Facilities) WREF, (Communications & Government Affairs) CGA and Corporate Secretariat to run seamlessly. This team designs and delivers cutting-edge digital platforms that power critical processes, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and scalability across the enterprise. Enterprise Systems Management & Business Operations delivers digital solutions that support Enterprise Systems running as a high-performing organisation. This team drives financial discipline, operational rigour and strategic alignment across the ES (Enterprise Services) portfolio that safeguard GSK’s integrity and reputation globally. By joining this team, you’ll help shape systems that support thousands of employees worldwide, driving innovation and reliability in the tools that keep GSK moving forward. Job Purpose: The Principal Process Pulse Engineer role provides technical leadership for the Aspen Tech Process Pulse platform and related PAT systems across GSK Global Supply Chain and R&D sites. The role owns solution design, OT(Operational Technology) architecture alignment, implementation, validation and troubleshooting for Process Pulse deployments and ensures that technical outputs align with approved OT Reference Architectures, Quality & Tech Management controls/ standards, product strategy and engineering standards. The job holder leads Process Pulse solution configurations (data sources, models, configurations, triggers, (OPC Unified Architecture) OPC UA interfaces, firewall data flows), coordinates engineers, site OT/Automation teams, Architects, Product Owners, OT Security and suppliers, and acts as the technical lead for complex delivery and operational issues in OT environments. They review technical specifications, configurations and validation evidence, lead root-cause analysis where operational, batch or data-integrity impact may exist, and develop engineering capability by coaching engineers and super users and converting lessons learned into reusable designs, standards, training and knowledge. Key Responsibilities: Implement Process Pulse technical designs and configurations (servers, database, data collectors, dashboards) in line with approved OT architecture, segmentation and product strategy Own technical quality for Process Pulse across assigned sites, including key specifications, design documentation, configuration records and validation evidence Manage the lifecycle of PAT models (creation, validation, deployment, monitoring and retirement) across platforms such as Process Pulse and Unscrambler, ensuring models are version-controlled, traceable and fit for process and quality use. Own the technical integration and data quality between modelling tools (e.g. Unscrambler), Process Pulse and execution / (Quality Control) QC systems so model outputs can be trusted for batch execution and investigations. Design and configure Process Pulse data sources, PAT models, configurations and access controls to support closed-loop control and real-time monitoring (e.g. condition monitoring, root-cause analysis, batch release). Keep Process Pulse configurations, scripts and infrastructure-as-code under version control, with automated deployment and upgrade checks and peer review of material changes, so OT integrations and platform changes remain traceable, repeatable and supportable Lead the design and configuration of OPC-based and other OT integrations between Process Pulse, analyzers, control systems and historians, in line with OT security standards and firewall patterns. Monitor system behavior (services, connectivity, licenses, database performance), identify issues and lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across applications, integrations and OT networks. Plan and execute technical installations, upgrades and patching for Process Pulse components while providing technical direction during releases and major incidents, coordinating with infrastructure, OT, site teams, vendors and OT Security as needed to ensure stable and secure operations. Work with Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT), (Manufacturing Execution System) MES and Data & Analytics teams to design or configure Process Pulse interfaces, workflows, recipes and data models, and review related specifications and test scripts Coach site engineers, OT teams and super users in Process Pulse patterns (configurations, models, dashboards, OPC and firewall behaviours) and contribute to training materials, runbooks and knowledge articles. Maintain and extend Process Pulse standards, reusable engineering assets and deployment patterns aligned with OT design and security guidance, while supporting technical assurance, audits and inspections for Process Pulse deployments and ensuring non-conformances and exceptions are documented and mitigated. Capture engineering lessons learned from Process Pulse projects and incidents and convert them into reusable standards, patterns and training for other PAT and OT platforms (e.g. other PAT platforms, (Advanced Process Control) APC, MES integrations). Make practical use of AI-assisted development, agent-based workflows and prompt templates for engineering, testing, documentation and support, validating every AI output for accuracy, security, (Good Practice) GxP/data integrity and maintainability before it is committed or released. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Automation, Data, Life Sciences, or a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Minimum 7+ years of hands-on technical engineering experience in complex enterprise or operational technology environments. Experience in implementing or supporting PAT platforms (for example, Process Pulse), including configuration of data sources, models, dashboards and data collectors. Experience in reviewing and approving specifications, design documents, configurations, test scripts and technical validation evidence. Experience in leading complex troubleshooting and root-cause investigations across systems, interfaces, workflows, data and infrastructure. Experience in coordinating internal engineers, site teams, vendors and specialist partners through design, deployment and stabilisation activities. Experience in assessing technical risk and ensuring security, data integrity, resilience, compliance and supportability requirements are met. Experience in OT integrations and industrial protocols (for example, OPC UA / OPC Data Access (OPC DA) between analysers, controllers/PLCs, historians and manufacturing systems. Experience working in operational technology environments with segmented networks, firewalls and OT security controls. Experience in supporting audits, inspections or formal technical assurance activities. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in applying analytical and structured problem-solving approaches to technical issues. Relevant technical, cloud, integration, automation, data, validation, cyber security or engineering certifications. Experience in translating architecture and product direction into technical designs and implementation activities. Experience in producing technical documentation and maintaining specifications, designs, test evidence and configuration records. Experience in interfaces, workflows, data flows, environments, monitoring and operational support. Experience in security, quality, validation, data integrity, resilience and change control requirements.
