Job description
Amazon is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to lead the Controllership team within our Global Withholding Tax (WHT) organization. In this role you will bridge tax expertise, process innovation, and technology to solve complex challenges at scale, directly influencing how Amazon manages withholding tax compliance across markets worldwide. You will set the strategy for how Amazon identifies, assesses, and strengthens withholding tax controls — evaluating and re-engineering existing processes, designing control and testing frameworks, and leading the global FAS-5 (ASC 450) process for withholding taxes on external-party payments. This is a people-leadership role: you will manage and develop a team of subject matter experts across global regions, operate independently in ambiguous, multi-jurisdictional environments, and influence partners across tax, finance, and technology. Key job responsibilities - Lead, coach, and develop a team of withholding tax controllership experts across global regions. - Own the design and execution of control and assurance testing frameworks, including differentiated approaches for intercompany and third-party payee withholding tax streams. - Lead the global FAS-5 (ASC 450) process for withholding taxes on external-party payments, partnering with Accounting to document and assess accruals. - Interpret testing outcomes, collaborate with Tax Planning and Compliance to agree findings, and oversee remediation actions through to closure. - Develop executive-level reporting and dashboards providing visibility into control health, testing coverage, and remediation status. - Drive the evolution toward scalable, technology-enabled controllership, including automated testing and AI-assisted assurance workflows. - Monitor the controllership impact of regulatory and treaty changes, proactively updating control frameworks. A day in the life No two days look the same. You will split your time between leading assurance activities with your team, advising on controls for new market launches and system changes, presenting findings and improvement proposals to senior leadership, and collaborating with technology partners on automation initiatives. Throughout, you coach a globally distributed team and work across the boundaries of tax compliance, controls design, and technology delivery. About the team The Global Withholding Tax team is responsible for income tax withholding compliance and reporting for global intercompany and third-party payee transactions.
