Job description

We are seeking an experienced Metal Stamping Manufacturing Engineering professional to lead precision stamped-part industrialization and stamping process excellence across external manufacturing partners and suppliers. The role is responsible for die and process development, tooling readiness, process capability, quality, cost optimization, and operational performance at external manufacturing sites. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Product Engineering, Sourcing, project engineers, toolmakers, material suppliers, and external factories to ensure robust, scalable, and cost-effective stamping processes that meet TE's quality, delivery, safety, and compliance requirements. Job Requirements Lead precision metal stamping process development, die qualification, transfer, and implementation at external factories. Drive stamping Design for Manufacturability (DFM), strip-layout optimization, material utilization, tolerance review, and Design for Cost (DFC). Define tooling concepts and specifications for progressive, transfer, compound, and secondary-operation dies, including cavitation, pitch, pilots, sensors, lubrication, and tool-life requirements. Review forming concepts and simulation results, including blank development, forming sequence, springback, strain, thinning, and material-flow risks. Lead die design reviews with toolmakers and suppliers from tool design release through tryout, qualification, PPAP, and production handover. Establish stamping process flows, PFMEA, Control Plans, setup instructions, inspection plans, process windows, and validation requirements. Plan and execute die tryouts and process qualifications, including dimensional, cosmetic, functional, capability, and run-at-rate evaluations. Ensure manufacturing readiness for NPI, engineering changes, material changes, die transfers, duplicate tools, and capacity expansion. Assess supplier capability covering presses, coil handling, feeders, straighteners, die protection, lubrication, metrology, toolrooms, maintenance, automation, and technical staffing. Support press selection, tonnage and energy assessment, shut-height review, feed-speed optimization, strip utilization, cycle time, and capacity planning. Monitor process capability, yield, OEE, press utilization, productivity, scrap, material usage, die downtime, tool life, and quality metrics. Drive resolution of burrs, cracks, splits, wrinkles, springback, distortion, slug pulling, galling, tool wear, misfeeds, dimensional variation, and cosmetic defects. Lead root cause analysis and corrective action using 8D, DMAIC, Fishbone, 5-Why, DOE, SPC, and statistical tools. Drive in-die sensing, mistake-proofing, process monitoring, standardized setups, and preventive maintenance for dies and presses. Coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve tooling, qualification, PPAP, and launch milestones. Drive Lean and Six Sigma improvements to increase FPY, reduce scrap and setup time, improve material utilization, and lower conversion cost. Conduct technical reviews, stamping process audits, die-condition assessments, and tooling capability reviews at supplier locations. Ensure compliance with applicable EHS, material traceability, customer-specific, and product quality requirements. What your background should look like Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline. 10+ years of hands-on precision metal stamping, tooling, and manufacturing engineering experience in connector, electronics, automotive, industrial, sensor, or related industries. Proven expertise in progressive-die design, tool construction, die tryout, process development, troubleshooting, qualification, and production support. Strong knowledge of strip layout, cutting and forming clearances, bend allowance, springback compensation, pilots, carrier design, die protection, and tool-life management. Experience with high-speed stamping of terminals, contacts, shields, lead frames, or other precision components. Knowledge of copper, brass, phosphor bronze, stainless steel, and other sheet or strip materials, including grain direction, temper, coatings, and material behavior. Experience with stamping presses, servo and mechanical press systems, coil feeding equipment, lubrication systems, and automated part handling. Ability to interpret forming simulations and convert results into practical die and process decisions. Experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE, and run-at-rate validation. Proven experience supporting NPI, tool transfer, product transfer, localization, and capacity expansion projects. Experience working with external suppliers, contract manufacturers, toolmakers, and global manufacturing operations. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles, with strong problem-solving and project-management skills.
