JOB DETAILS: Location: Cork, Ireland Onsite: This role requires the student to work full time onsite throughout the duration of the intern term Duration: Students must be available to start on January 15 th and finish August 13 th 2027 The AMD SerDes team in Ireland work on SerDes products up to 200+Gbps on the latest CMOS FinFET nodes. The AMD team have extensive experience in the design of circuits for the high speed transmission and recovery of data over wired links. The successful candidate will work with a world class team in the development of SerDes solutions to facilitate the future connectivity of AMD CPU , GPU and FPGA products. The Analog Mixed Signal (AMS) team designs Radio Frequency analog and digital circuits such as ADCs, DACs, references and high speed interfaces which are integrated into FPGA devices. These devices are used in a variety of applications such as automotive, wireless communications and medical imaging. As part of AMD’s IC design team, you will work alongside experienced engineers and gain hands-on exposure to the end-to-end chip design process. The internship provides opportunities to develop skills in analog, mixed-signal, and digital IC design while using industry-leading design tools and methodologies. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: Learn about specification development, design partitioning, and the overall IC design process. Support the design and verification of analog and mixed-signal circuits, including circuits used in high-speed SerDes PHY development. Gain exposure to digital design and/or digital functional verification methodologies. Learn custom analog layout techniques and understand the impact of layout-dependent effects on circuit performance. Verify circuit designs to ensure functional, performance, and reliability targets are achieved using industry-standard tools and practices. Work closely with senior engineers to develop technical and design skills. Regularly present design progress and technical findings to peers and senior team members. Participate in design reviews and technical discussions to broaden exposure to a range of circuit architectures and design approaches. Use best-in-class design, simulation, and verification tools to support development activities. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: You are currently enrolled in university in a program majoring in Electrical/Electronic engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field If you have experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply - Knowledge of analog and digital circuit fundamentals, logic design, and electronic systems gained through university coursework. Understanding of analog design principles. Competence in at least one programming, scripting, or hardware description language such as Python, C, Java, Verilog, or similar. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to present technical information effectively. Eagerness to learn and contribute within a collaborative engineering environment. Ambition to gain as much knowledge as possible about high-speed circuit and chip design in leading-edge technologies.
