THE ROLE: The Director, Government Relations (Malaysia/SE Asia) will lead the AMD's government relations strategy and stakeholder engagement activities in Malaysia and in key markets in Southeast Asia. The role will serve as the primary interface with relevant government officials, regulators, industry associations, and strategic stakeholders to advance the company's business, policy, and investment objectives. The successful candidate will develop and execute advocacy strategies, strengthen relationships with key ministries and agencies, identify policy opportunities and risks, and support major corporate initiatives across semiconductor design, research and development, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, trade, investment, and workforce development. This leader will work closely with AMD leadership in government relations, trade compliance, legal, business, and communications to ensure alignment between AMD priorities and relevant government’s economic and industrial policy objectives. THE PERSON: Build trusted relationships with key government stakeholders. Advance company priorities through effective advocacy and engagement. Anticipate policy risks and identify strategic opportunities. Align company investments with national economic and technology priorities. Enhance the company's reputation as a long-term partner in Malaysia's technology ecosystem. Deliver measurable outcomes supporting business growth, investment, and policy objectives. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Government Relations Engagement Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior government officials, policymakers, regulators and other relevant stakeholders. Serve as AMD's primary representative before relevant ministries, agencies and public institutions. Lead engagement in Malaysia with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Ministry of Finance (MOF), Ministry of Digital, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), relevant state governments and economic development authorities, and the U.S. Embassy. Prepare and support executive-level engagements with ministers, agency heads and senior government leaders. Public Policy and Advocacy Monitor, analyze and help shape policy developments affecting AMD's business and investment priorities. Develop advocacy strategies that support sustainable business growth and investment objectives. Prepare policy positions, executive briefing materials, talking points and stakeholder engagement plans. Represent AMD in consultations on legislation, regulation and industrial policy initiatives. Advise on government priorities related to semiconductors, AI and the digital economy, technology investment incentives, research and innovation, international trade and export controls, and workforce development. Investment and Strategic Projects Support major capital investment, expansion, design, R&D and related projects in Malaysia. Coordinate external stakeholder engagement for incentive programs, grants and strategic partnerships. Build the case for government support of business initiatives and investments. Identify opportunities arising from national technology and industrial development programs Internal Advisory Serve as a trusted advisor to regional and corporate leadership on political, regulatory and geopolitical developments. Provide risk assessments and strategic recommendations regarding government actions and policy changes. Coordinate cross-functional responses to emerging regulatory and public policy matters. Deliver regular executive reporting on stakeholder engagement and policy developments. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Extensive experience in government relations, public policy, regulatory affairs, public sector engagement or a related discipline. Experience working in or with the Malaysian government, government-linked institutions, multinational corporations, trade associations or consulting organizations. Strong understanding of Malaysia's political institutions, policymaking processes and economic development priorities. Demonstrated success engaging senior government officials and business executives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Strong executive presence, judgment, diplomacy and stakeholder management skills. Experience in semiconductors, technology, digital infrastructure, telecommunications, manufacturing or another advanced technology sector. Familiarity with Malaysia's National Semiconductor Strategy and related industrial policy initiatives. An established network across relevant Malaysian ministries and agencies is advantageous. Regional Southeast Asia government affairs experience is preferred. Experience working effectively in a highly matrixed multinational organization. ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Law, Business, or related field.
