The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a Product Development Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Lead product reliability, verification, validation, and quality engineering activities for next-generation electromechanical systems and installation platforms. Develop reliability strategies, test plans, accelerated life testing protocols, environmental qualification methods, and engineering verification plans to ensure robust field performance. Perform failure analysis, root-cause investigations, and corrective action implementation using structured problem-solving methodologies. Drive Design for Reliability (DfR), Design for Quality (DfQ), risk assessment, and FMEA activities throughout product development and commercialization. Collaborate with mechanical, electronics, firmware, manufacturing, supplier quality, and regulatory teams to identify risks and deliver reliable, manufacturable products. Contribute to new product launches across all phases of product development. Generating intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets. Leading technical interactions with corporate, group and division labs to identify new technologies, processes and materials to be applied to the Energy Markets Developing and commercializing products to efficiently, reliably and sustainably deliver energy to customers around the world Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Quality Engineering or Science (completed and verified prior to start) Three (3) years of experience in product development, reliability engineering, quality engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field in a private, public, government or military environment. Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Master's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Quality Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution. Experience with reliability modeling, accelerated life testing, Weibull analysis, reliability growth analysis, and life-data modeling. Experience leading FMEA, fault-tree analysis, risk assessments, and Design for Reliability initiatives. Experience developing qualification programs for electromechanical, automation, robotics, industrial equipment, or power-system products. Experience with statistical software and methodologies including Minitab, JMP, DOE, SPC, and process capability analysis. Experience with regulatory, product safety, UL, CE, IEC, or similar compliance standards. Experience with supplier quality, manufacturing quality systems, and production qualification activities. Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Austin, TX.
