Job description
At Genmab, we are dedicated to building extra[not]ordinary® futures, together, by developing antibody products and groundbreaking, knock-your-socks-off KYSO antibody medicines® that change lives and the future of cancer treatment and serious diseases. We strive to create, champion and maintain a global workplace where individuals’ unique contributions are valued and drive innovative solutions to meet the needs of our patients, care partners, families and employees. Our people are compassionate, candid, and purposeful, and our business is innovative and rooted in science. We believe that being proudly authentic and determined to be our best is essential to fulfilling our purpose. Yes, our work is incredibly serious and impactful, but we have big ambitions, bring a ton of care to pursuing them, and have a lot of fun while doing so. Does this inspire you and feel like a fit? Then we would love to have you join us! The Role What can mass spectrometry data reveal about different antibody formats? And when an unexpected analytical result appears, how do you investigate where it started and what might explain it? We are looking for a Master’s student with practical mass spectrometry experience to join a research project focused on improving the MS data quality in general and for protein characterization. This internship offers the opportunity to deepen your analytical skills while investigating a real scientific question within antibody research. Your project will combine reviewing existing data with planning and carrying out follow-up experiments. You will investigate whether historical results reveal when an observed issue first emerged, identify patterns or changes over time, and develop hypotheses to explore further. This hypothesis will then be tested experimentally in the laboratory to finally obtain improved data quality in general or only for certain formats. Using mass spectrometry and relevant data analysis tools, including deconvolution software, you will help build a clearer understanding of the findings across different antibody formats. Together with your supervisor and the team, you will refine the research question and agree on a feasible project plan aligned with your university’s learning objectives. We are looking for someone who is ready to take an active role in shaping their approach: reviewing the available evidence, proposing next steps, and organizing their experimental work! Please submit your CV and motivation letter. Tell us what interests you about this project, what you hope to learn, and describe your practical experience with mass spectrometry. We would particularly like to hear about your own contribution to a previous research project and how you approached an unexpected result or scientific challenge. Responsibilities Review existing mass spectrometry data and experimental records to investigate when an observed analytical issue may have emerged. Compare results over time and across relevant samples or experiments to identify patterns and potential contributing factors. Use scientific literature and available data to formulate hypotheses and propose a structured investigation plan. Plan and perform protein characterization experiments, including intact MS analysis, with guidance from your supervisor. Process and interpret mass spectrometry data using relevant analysis tools, including deconvolution software where appropriate. Critically evaluate your results, discuss alternative explanations, and propose follow-up experiments for method development. Keep clear experimental records and document your methods, findings, and conclusions. Present your progress and final recommendations to the team, explaining both the evidence and the limitations of your work. Requirements Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree at a Dutch university in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline, and able to remain enrolled throughout the internship. This internship must be a formal, mandatory component of your degree program required for graduation; we cannot consider candidates who have already graduated or who are seeking an extracurricular internship. Available for a minimum of six months, preferably seven months. Practical experience with mass spectrometry is required, ideally involving proteins. A solid understanding of protein biochemistry and an interest in analytical characterization of different antibody formats. Previous research experience, preferably through an earlier internship. This project is particularly suited to students seeking their second Master’s internship. Familiarity with mass spectrometry data analysis; deconvolution software would be valuable. Able to approach a scientific question systematically, assess existing evidence, and translate your ideas into a practical research plan. Comfortable taking ownership of agreed tasks while discussing uncertainties and seeking guidance when needed. A careful, organized approach to laboratory work, data interpretation, and documentation. Good spoken and written English, with the ability to explain your findings and contribute to scientific discussions. General Intern Information Internship duration: At least six months, preferably seven months. Please only apply if you can commit to the minimum duration. Start date: 1 February or 1 March 2027. These fixed start dates align with our internship cohorts, allowing you to join fellow students for onboarding and shared learning activities. Location: Utrecht, Netherlands. Working arrangement: Full-time, onsite. The proposed gross annual base salary range for this position, in the primary location, based on a full time schedule is: EUR750,00---750,00 The final salary offer will depend on several factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as discretionary bonuses and long-term incentives. When you join Genmab, you become a part of a culture that supports your physical, financial, social, and emotional well-being. Our benefits include, but are not limited to: Pension Health insurance and wellness benefits Paid time off Employee support programs Further details on eligibility for compensation and benefits based on the role will be provided during the recruitment process.
