Job description

Summary The Platform team is a distributed team, primarily based in Dublin, Ireland. We build application software and features for the FINEOS AdminSuite, together with the infrastructure, frameworks, tooling, and technology that support FINEOS applications and our cloud-hosting service. This role sits within a team dedicated to AI-powered capabilities for the FINEOS AdminSuite, and the frameworks and tooling that support them. As an Engineering Manager in FINEOS, you are responsible for the people, technical capability, and delivery effectiveness of the team. You understand the technical work being performed by the scrum team and the inter-dependencies between tasks required to deliver the defined user stories against the definition of done. Our Engineering Managers work closely and collaborate with product owners, engineering managers, VPs, architects, developers, testers, analysts, data scientists, and business and technical consultants, as well as other cross-functional team members. You will participate in design, implementation, influencing architectural decisions, innovation and proposing improvements, while also line managing, mentoring and coaching team members. Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned) Facilitate one or more Scrum teams, who are responsible for software delivery against the definition of done, and provide technical, delivery, and people leadership that ensures release readiness in line with the SDLC process and our internal standards. Lead, coach, and develop team members through regular feedback, goal setting, mentoring, performance management, career development, and talent assessment; support succession planning and partner with HR and Recruitment to recruit and retain high-performing engineers. Foster a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and psychological safety where team members 'own' the product and enjoy working on it. Own release coordination and act as the quality gate for the AI Core service, working with QA and data science so releases are validated against accumulated test evidence and AI-governance requirements. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, acting as an escalation point where appropriate, and partner with Product Owners on backlog readiness, prioritisation, and release planning. Proactively manage dependencies, risks, and impediments affecting delivery commitments and team effectiveness. Ensure products meet established standards for quality, security, reliability, maintainability, and performance, and drive effective management of technical debt and long-term platform sustainability. Partner with Architects and Technical Leads to guide technical direction and solution quality, and use engineering metrics and operational insights to drive continuous improvement. Promote customer-centric decision making, ensuring teams understand customer needs and business value, and support customer escalations and production issue management where required. Identify, deliver, and drive improvements and innovations within Platform, and provide guidance on best practices and peer review of designs, code, and tests. Promote and live the FINEOS values and increase positive relations with team, customers, prospects, and partners. Education and/or Experience BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field with 3+ years of hands-on experience, preferably on Enterprise-scale systems. 2+ years of technical leadership/coordination, preferably as engineering manager or equivalent role. Line Management Experience including performance appraisals of direct reports. Experience working in an Agile environment. Proven track record delivering enterprise software products or programmes. Experience leading geographically distributed teams is desirable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Natural leadership & negotiation skills with a focus on driving results. Experience building and developing high-performing teams. Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability. Experience working within scaled Agile delivery models, including SAFe or equivalent frameworks. Demonstrate an understanding of full software development and release life cycles. Ability to balance delivery commitments, technical debt, and quality objectives, informed by engineering performance metrics and continuous improvement techniques. Great collaboration, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills (both written and verbal). Ability to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, and succeed when not measured by individual output but the output of an entire team. Awareness of AI-specific concerns - non-deterministic outputs, prompt sensitivity, safety, privacy, bias, and AI governance - is an advantage. Technical Skills Understanding of modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps principles, secure software development, and cloud-based delivery models. Familiarity with coding across the team's stack (Java, Python, Node JS/TypeScript) and with Object-Oriented programming and the application of design patterns. Familiarity with some of the following: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Python, JSON. Familiarity with RDBMS and/or NoSQL datastores (e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB). Experience/exposure to AWS or other Cloud technologies, ideally including GenAI services (Bedrock, Textract) and serverless (Lambda, SQS, Step Functions). Exposure to Continuous Integration and build automation tools such as Gradle, Git, Jenkins, CDK. Multi-platform skills (Linux/Windows) would be an advantage.
